Vocatus is a microbrewery located in the town of Skive in Denmark. Tudse means toad in Danish, and each of the brewery’s beers is decorated with a unique toad illustration on the label. Below is the result of the work on their new logo.
While studying in Denmark, my friend Mia and I stumbled upon a small brewery in the village center that we hadn’t seen before. We knocked on the door and asked whether they might need a logo for their newly opened shop – and yes, they were open to the idea! Here you can read more about the process behind it.
Logo icon
Given the toad’s central role in Vocatus’ brand, inspiration for the icon was taken from the shape of the toad’s eye as seen on the brewery’s existing labels. This shape also appears in several other parts of the design work.
This version can be used, for example, as a browser icon, on bottle caps, or anywhere the larger versions of the logo do not fit.
Primary logotype
For the primary logo, a custom typeface was created to match the Vocatus brand and the aesthetic of the labels. This logo is used in the website header as well as on signage, menus and similar materials.
Logotype with illustration
To further highlight Vocatus’ character and aesthetic, an illustration was also created. The purpose of this illustration is to be used on larger surfaces when the client wants to draw attention to something specific, for example on the website or on shop windows (as shown below).
This project is a collaboration between me and Mia Meder Bird.
